Texas Handball Association

Our programs

Four lines of work, each aimed at the same result: more people playing handball in Texas, in more places, more often.

Statewide planning

Texas handball has strong local clubs, but they have historically operated independently of one another. We convene club leaders, university representatives, and city organizers to develop a shared strategic plan for the sport in Texas, and we maintain the organizational framework that keeps that work going between meetings.

This includes maintaining a statewide map of active handball communities, identifying regions where the sport has no organized presence, and coordinating the shared calendar so that events across the state do not collide.

Tournaments

We coordinate and sponsor handball tournaments throughout Texas, including state and regional championships sanctioned by the United States Handball Association. Sanctioned play gives Texas players verified results, national rankings, and a path into regional and national competition.

Our role includes working with host facilities, publishing the statewide schedule, and helping local organizers run events that meet USHA standards.

Instruction and clinics

Handball is difficult to pick up without someone to teach it, and that is the single largest barrier to the sport’s growth. We hold open seminars and clinics that introduce and teach handball to players of all ages and skill levels, frequently in partnership with Texas colleges and universities.

Clinics are open to the public. Experienced players from around the state volunteer as instructors.

Youth and collegiate programs

The long-term health of handball in Texas depends on young players finding the sport and having a court to play on. We work to develop and sustain youth and university handball programs, and to preserve and expand the places where handball can be played.

This work is done through partnerships with schools, universities, public agencies, parks and recreation departments, and community organizations across the state.
